History

The company was founded in 2007 by utilizing part of a fund setup by Turkish businessmen and scientists living in Denmark and Sweden. The main reason for establishing the fund was to investin small and medium-sized medical device manufacturers to enable them to compete globally.

The company made its first investment move in 2007 by purchasinga medical device company in Turkey called Nemed, a manufacturer of coronary stents and PTCA catheters, renamed Alvimedica Medical Devices Inc. Later the newly established company purchased an American manufacturer of diagnostic and guiding catheters called In-Vivo was in 2009.
 
Alvimedica has one of the biggest class 10.000 cleanrooms in Europe. An area of 700 m², which complies with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards, contains the main assembly of catheter and stent systems, including the drug-eluting stent (Coracto) first developed and manufactured in Turkey. Alvimedica’s headquarters is a 5,500 m² facility located at the free trade zone in Catalca, Istanbul, Turkey. Current projects include, amongst others, renal and cranial intravascular stents. The company is also working on bioabsorbable stents which are completely absorbed into the body. With its world-class technology, Alvimedica manufactures coronary stents, balloon catheters and diagnostic and guiding catheters - all with the CE mark.
