Alvimedica Invasive Cardiology Simulation Training Programs
Workshop
“Introductory course in Interventional Cardiology” is actually a basic course tailored specifically for young cardiologists. Its main aim is to give cardiologists an opportunity to use several simulation systems and prepare them for real life interventional cardiology surgery.
The course is 2 days long and takes place at the INTUS Training Center which belongs to the University of Wuerzburg. Prof. Wolfram Voelker is the host of this training and also administrates the training center.
Prof. Voelker plays a leading role in these kinds of organizations held in the German Cardiology Education community. He started the first course with Siemens 6 years ago. What makes the workshop unique is that the workshop is limited to 15 participants. The 15 doctors are divided into 3 different groups handling different hands-on topics.
Scope
To learn about coronary angioplasty, the angiographic projections of the stenosis, the right selection of catheters and further tips and tricks of wire techniques and catheter intervention.
Target Group
Advanced trainees with little or no skills in diagnostic coronary angiography. Course size is limited to 15 participants to enhance learning success.
Content of the Workshop
- Optimized angiographic settings at intra-cardiac catheter examination and intervention
- Basic principles of radiation dose reduction
- Quality management in the cath-lab
- Case studies
- Introduction to the materials used in the cath-lab
Content of Hands-on Training
- Coronary intervention exercises using , Cathi-Lab and ECS computer based simulation systems
- Coronary intervention training using pulsatile heart simulation with C-arm under X-ray
- Practice of guide-wires using simulation system by Prof. Nanto
Doctors are rotated through these 3 different stations. The course is completed after 5 sessions in a classroom with everybody’s attendance.

- Cathi Simulation (procedural steps)
- Immersion simulator (transapical and femoral implantation of aortic valve)
- Monoplane angiographic system by Philips
