The Thinnest Catheter of the World: Invader CTO has been Applied to a Patient during a Live Broadcast

During the “4th Congress on the Innovations Regarding the Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery” organized in Antalya, the thinnest catheter of the world: Invader CTO - which was developed by Alvimedica - was applied to a patient during a live broadcast in Istanbul.

The congress, which was held with contributions from leading people within the medical community in the field of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery nationally and internationally, is renowned as an organization where innovations and difficult cases in the cardiology field are discussed.

Alvimedica sponsored this congress as the first and only enterprise manufacturing PTCA Balloon Catheters and Coronary Stents in Turkey. The company contributed to a few of the congress’ live cases with its own products and technology.

Prof Nicolaus Reifart is one of the most well-known experts in the area of CTO (Chronic Total Occlusion) He develops projects in cooperation with Alvimedica. Together with Ass. Prof. Cevat Kirma, Clinic Chief of Kosuyolu Heart and Research Hospital and his team, he performed a CTO operation using the latest techniques. Prof. Reifart provided technical assistance to the team in terms of strategy and intervention.

This technique - which Prof. Reifart is working with- is an innovationdeveloped as an alternative to a By-Pass. The application of this technique takes a shorter time and is more effective in comparison to a By-Pass. This technique in some cases will be replacing the By-Pass within just a few years.

Prof. Nicolaus Reifart also founded the CTO department at the Europe Society of Cardiology. He has a well-deserved reputation due to the high number of successful cases he has performed on. These cases are known as the most difficult case group in the interventional cardiology field and Japanese cardiologists are considered worldwide to be experts in these cases. He conducted a study for 24 months -with Alvimedica’s contributions- on difficult, chronic and totally occluded lesions. The results of his clinical study were presented at the Europe Cardiology meeting.
